This cozy American restaurant delivers a genuine small-town dining experience, where the flavors speak as loudly as the warm, welcoming atmosphere. If you’re craving the distinct taste of walleye and catfish prepared with care and tradition, Jimmies is the spot to satisfy that appetite.
The menu is a rich celebration of Midwestern culinary staples, with standout dishes like the perfectly breaded catfish and succulent walleye, alongside generous platters of crispy shrimp. Diners rave about the Walleye and Catfish Dinner with Tots and the indulgent Shrimp and Walleye with Cajun Fries—each bite bursting with savory, home-cooked goodness. Notably, the Jimmy's Double Bacon Cheeseburger and the satisfying Ribeye Steak and Shrimp cater to those who crave steaks and burgers with a hearty, no-fuss twist.
Breakfast lovers will find plenty to enjoy here as well. The restaurant’s signature Homemade Biscuits & Gravy paired with ham steak and eggs embody a rustic comfort that wraps around you like a warm morning hug. Other breakfast options, including a variety of omelets, pancakes, and country-fried specials, add to the wholesome start to your day—though you won’t find waffles on the menu, their extensive offerings are sure to please any morning appetite.
Complementing the mains are classic Southern sides that round out the meal: fluffy hush puppies, creamy coleslaw, savory pinto beans, and indulgent mashed potatoes with brown gravy. And if you have room for dessert, the strawberry shortcake and warm cobbler offer a perfect sweet finale to this down-home feast.
While the building itself is described as a modest, well-worn space—true to its “hole in the wall” charm—the emphasis here is on food that comforts and satisfies, not flashy decor. The staff’s friendly, attentive service makes guests feel like regulars from the moment they walk in, adding a personal touch that transforms a meal into a memorable experience. This genuine hospitality shines especially during breakfast and lunch hours when locals and travelers alike enjoy generous portions at affordable prices.
Customer feedback reflects a mix of affection for the hearty food and friendly service with some critiques on side dishes and occasional inconsistency. For instance, the catfish seasoning and breading earn high praise for being near perfect, while some find fries and beans less exciting. Even so, the atmosphere of familiarity and the quality of the main dishes keep patrons coming back, drawn by comfort and flavor that evoke a genuine taste of Missouri’s culinary roots.
If you’re seeking an unpretentious dining stop where every plate feels crafted with care and the welcoming ambiance invites relaxation, Jimmies Walleye & Catfish is a must-try. Expect a classic American kitchen experience, where seafood shines, breakfast is hearty, and the spirit of small-town hospitality is alive and well.
No way I would have decided to stop here without seeing the reviews on Google Maps. The building is worn out and the parking lot is even worse. But the wait staff make you feel like you’re a regular - a local, if you will. We got here late in the evening so all or nearly all of the listed desserts were already gone. And a couple of the sides were also sold out. But we arrived well after the “normal” dinner time, so it was to be expected. Since breakfast is available all day, that’s nearly always my choice. My omelette was made to order, hot, and tasty. Hash browns were solid too. My buddy opted for the 5 piece catfish special - which was a ridiculously good deal and way too much food! Oh… we got an order of the cheese curds too - super yummy! I’d totally go back here if I was ever in the area again.
Catfish had a perfect breading. The coleslaw was delicious. Now the not so good...... The beans are bland, the fries were cold and bland. Our service was very bland like half the food. However our drinks and food did come out in reasonable speed.
We went for lunch a couple weeks back, and it was an ok experience. The staff was super friendly and very helpful, but the quality of food was just ok. We did enjoy the shrimp, but the rest was underwhelming. I'm not saying we wouldn't try again, but I doubt we would go out of our way to.
Was out showing property and stopped in for some late breakfast. It had been years since I’d eaten there. It’s still a good down hike restaurant that the locals like to frequent, have coffee and an affordable meal. I think I got a lot of food for $8. Waitress was attentive and helpful. It was pretty tasty and comforting on a cold November morning. If you want a good, affordable meal with great service, check it out. Sure beats fast food on price and taste.
Typical small town hole in the wall. If you are picky about decor, don't bother. If you are more concerned about the flavor and quality service, then head on over! We stopped in for breakfast, and asked for Walleye instead of ham with eggs, hash browns and toast. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection, lightly breaded and seasoned! So worth the stop, and many thanks to the cook and waitress for being flexible.
The walleye was fantastic! 10 stars. Beans weren't the best but the walleye made up for it! We will definitely be stopping here next time we are in town.
If you are hungry for fish, this is the place to go. Especially if you're interested in fried catfish and walleye. The fish was excellent. Not the least bit oily. It was hot, freshly fried, and tasted great. It was served with brown beans, hush puppies, a baked potato, coleslaw, and pickles. If you're not a fish person there are other menu items. However I highly recommend the fish. It has a diner type atmosphere and excellent service.
Small town diner. Great food!!! Kindest servers! Veterans decorations. Again great food!!! Biscuits and gravy was delicious
